Keyword within Subject

This search is available from the Basic Search screen. Subject searching allows you to locate materials based upon the specific topical content. This search looks for all words within a single subject heading. Search results will include a specific list of all subject headings that include the word(s) used in the Search For: box. The results list displays the number of titles associated with each subject heading.

To display the titles associated with a specific subject heading, click on the underlined heading. This will take you to the title list associated with that subject heading.

If there is an See Also icon next to the subject heading, this links to one or more other subject headings in the catalog. Click the icon to see this additional information. For example:

# Titles Heading Heading Type
1

Preserve Arizona's Wolves (Group) Library of Congress

By clicking on the icon, the catalog will lead you to the correct subject heading. For example:

Reference Info
See:P.A.WS. (Group)

By clicking on the term(s) to the right of See:, the catalog then takes you to the standard subject heading, including titles associated with that subject.

# Titles Heading Heading Type

If there are more than 25 subject headings or titles, you can display the Next 25 by clicking the icon. You can return to the Previous 25 subject headings or titles by clicking the icon.

ARIEL UNICODE MS is the recommended font for viewing Search Tips. The screen may not display properly in other fonts.
Search Tips: Limits Limits may only be used with Keyword, Title, Journal Title, and Author (Personal or Corporate) searches.
Limits are retained between searches until they are removed.

Use Limits to apply one or more limits (such as years, languages, locations, etc.) to a search.
Quick Limit and Limits cannot be used simultaneously.
Keyword The default Keyword search is a relevance search that combines terms with 'and'.
To truncate, use a question mark. For example: child? will retrieve child, child's, children, childhood, etc.
To search phrases, use quotes. For example:"French Revolution"
Title and Journal Title Omit initial articles (a, an, the, el, la, etc.) when doing a title search:
lewis and clark journals rather than the lewis and clark journals
Author (Personal or Corporate) For individuals, enter last name first, followed by first name, if known: shakespeare william
Enter names of organizations or groups: american psychological association
Subject Browse Searches Library of Congress Subject headings. For this search to work, terms must be entered in exact order.

If the search does not work, try a Keyword or Keyword Within Subject search where word order does not matter.
